“Encouraging downstream manufacturing will keep the vast majority of value-add, jobs and skills in Australia, not to mention enabling Australia to play a more critical role in the global energy transition.” - Darryl Cuzzubbo Arafura Rare Earths welcomes the announcement in the 2024-25 Federal Budget to provide tax credits to Australia’s critical minerals industry as a means of boosting downstream processing of critical minerals. The tax credits will incentivise value-adding projects, such as Arafura’s ore to oxide Nolans Project, building on Australia’s comparative advantage and supporting an ex-China supply chain for the critical minerals essential to the net zero pathway. Commenting on the initiative, Arafura MD & CEO Darryl Cuzzubbo said: “A 10 per cent production tax credit for critical minerals processing will incentivise much-needed private sector investment in Australian downstream value add projects. This helps projects like Arafura’s Nolans Project which is the only ore to oxide, single site NdPr rare earth project in Australia. "Ore to oxide processing represents 90-95 per cent of the full value chain in creating a NdPr metal.   “The government’s support is ensuring Australia’s critical mineral sector remains cost competitive with overseas jurisdictions where there has been similar policy reform. This will benefit Australians for multiple generations as we make the most of the opportunity afforded to us in support of the global energy transition. Arafura fully supports the Commonwealth’s broader ‘Future Made in Australia’ policy.”

Auf Hotcopper scheint man sich ja am meisten Sorgen zu machen wegen der Shortseller. In der Tat erscheint es seltsam, dass man in einer entacheidenden Phase so gegen das Projekt wettet. Entweder halten diese Leute also die Risiken für sehr hoch oder sie haben Interesse daran, dass es nicht zu einer Realisierung kommt oder wenn dann zu möglichst unattraktiven Konditionen. Da fällt mir natürlich als erstes China ein.

Aus eine HotCopper Forum von ARU The Biden admin introduction next week is a very major positive for the likes of ARU (not so for concentrate only producers supplying feed to the giant Chinese refiners). In my view next week we will see the beginning of the demise of Chinese RE pricing controls which has been a major issue/block for companies like ARU. Quiet simply and this whole tariff's quadrupling needs a lot of dissecting - some is immediately obvious - some lesser. However a US four fold increase in import tariffs on RE - NdPr - magnets has just 100% secured ARU's future - One would anticpate EU - SK to implement similar in the future and if one looks at the massive POSCO magnet supply to top auto in US and EU - no Chinese NdPr will be used - ARU will simply get a premium on top for end users - those huge multi national companies needing product but needing to circumnavigate the four fold import tariffs and of course the transparent/traceable ESG compliance topper. Anyway we will be able to discuss this more when announced next week the exact new import tariff and what that increases the NdPr pricing to US buyers. The other part is critical also. What does China then do.
